MLB Umps Need A Reality Check

We all know about the umpire who missed an obvious call at first base that ruined a historic perfect game.  But in the grand scheme of things, the team that was supposed to win the game still won the game.  However, this afternoon as I'm watching The Yankees take on The Royals, I see an umpire blow an equally obvious call at second base that led to a home run.  The home run gave The Royals the lead and should the Yankees lose this game by two runs, the outcome could be traced back to that blown call.  I understand the need to protect the authority of the umpires but something absolutely has to be done about this.

The simplest and most obvious solution is the implementation of instant replay.  This has been debated endlessly over the last few years and I fail to understand the viewpoint of those who oppose it.  The argument is instant replay will make long games even longer.  But think about it, it works in the NFL because each coach is given a set number of times they can call for replay.  Give each manager two challenges and each challenge should take no more than five minutes.  What's ten minutes to a game that already lasts 3+ hours?  I  personally have seen so many blown calls over the last few seasons that this should be a no brainer and I truly question the thought process (and intelligence) of anyone who says it's a bad idea.  The blown calls are beginning to ruin the sport; a sport that is trying to recover from a drug induced era and could use all the fanfare and positive publicity possible.
